SAPS eight-item source edition
Explore eight SAPS statements with separate Standards and Discrepancy readings, clear scoring examples and two complete guides. No combined type or percentile.

These statements ask about attitudes toward yourself, your performance and others. Please answer truthfully and accurately for yourself. Select one response from 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly agree) for each statement. Choose one agreement response for every statement. Use the statement as written and answer for yourself; there are no right or wrong answers. No fixed recent-day recall window is added to the source instructions. All eight valid responses are required for a calculated summary. Missing answers are not filled in, treated as disagreement or silently omitted from an average. Read Standards and Discrepancy separately. A mean from 1 to 7 describes the chosen agreement range, and its four-response sum runs from 4 to 28. Neither is a percentile or diagnostic category. If an example in a guide does not fit, leave it aside. Personal context and the actual choices you face matter more than adopting a label from a number.

How much do you expect of yourself, and how do you evaluate results against those expectations? The Short Almost Perfect Scale keeps those questions in two related but separate dimensions: Standards and Discrepancy. This page is a self-report reading, not an objective assessment of how good your work is. The eight statements use seven agreement choices. Four contribute to Standards and four to Discrepancy. The result presents each dimension separately, with its response summary and a worked example. It does not combine them into a single perfectionism percentage or assign a clinical, healthy or unhealthy type. The two complete reading guides can be read before or after answering. They explain the numbers, use ordinary examples and include counterexamples and optional questions. There is no requirement to recognise yourself in every scene. The source instrument is by Rice, Richardson and Tueller (2014). The Chinese wording is a FermatMind working translation, without independent validation or a claim of equivalent cross-language norms.
This edition follows the eight English SAPS statements and seven agreement choices in the source sheet. Chinese is a FermatMind working translation, without independent validation, Chinese norms or established cross-language equivalence.

Standards uses source items 1, 3, 5 and 7; Discrepancy uses 2, 4, 6 and 8. There are no reversed items. Each dimension has a four-response sum from 4 to 28 and a mean from 1 to 7. Means are calculated before display rounding.
All eight valid agreement responses are required. Missing or invalid answers do not become zero, a neutral answer or a shorter denominator. No combined total, percentage, percentile, universal band or assigned type is produced.
The source sheet recommends distributing the eight statements among other research items with a similar response scale. This standalone web presentation and working translation are adaptations; they do not establish the same administration conditions or inherit new validation.
The guides explain responses rather than actual work quality, population standing or clinical status. Original examples and optional task reviews illustrate a reading; they are not treatment protocols or predictions of future performance.
Two complete public guides explain SAPS Standards and Discrepancy. The eight source items use seven agreement choices; each four-item dimension has its own mean and sum. All eight responses must be valid, without imputation, a combined total, types or percentiles. Chinese is a working translation reviewed by FermatMind editors, without independent validation.
Read four Standards responses through exact arithmetic, a task-sized example, counterexamples and the distinction from self-critical evaluation.
Read four Discrepancy responses with different patterns at the same mean, a concrete correction, counterexamples and careful limits on interpretation.
It is an eight-item self-report instrument about two dimensions of perfectionism: personal Standards and Discrepancy, or self-critical evaluations of performance relative to expectations. It does not directly measure actual achievement or the quality of a task.
Each dimension uses four responses. The author FAQ allows their mean or sum. Four choices of 1 through 7 give a sum from 4 to 28 and a mean from 1 to 7; the guide shows worked examples. The two dimensions are kept separate.
No universal bands or type are assigned here. A point in the response range is not a population rank or an adaptive or maladaptive identity. Classification rules require separate evidence for their intended sample and interpretation.
No. The reading describes your responses and offers optional questions. It cannot determine the cause of dissatisfaction, make an employment or education decision or replace an account of persistent difficulties and appropriate support.
No cross-language equivalence or Chinese norms are claimed for this adaptation. The source English research and a working translation reviewed by FermatMind editors are different kinds of evidence. Do not compare language versions as though a shared numerical range proved equivalence.
Both complete reading guides use fictional examples and can be read independently of a personal score. You can read them first and decide whether to answer. They do not reveal anyone’s responses.
The author’s SAPS-specific notice and source sheet supply eight English items, seven anchors and separate dimension scoring, with attribution for use and translation. The working Chinese and web presentation have no independent validation, population norms, established language equivalence or original-author endorsement.
