Check whether the arrangement gives the task somewhere to happen.
Explore approved tools, usable working conditions, fallback contact and information-handling support.
Read four current preparation stages, including the conditions you cannot assess. A numeric mean needs all four numeric answers; it is not a remote-work pass mark.
Start with a representative task
Having a laptop and an internet connection does not establish that a particular task can be done remotely. The task may depend on approved software, access to a shared resource, a workable environment and a way to get support. This area records preparation for checking those conditions. It does not inspect your device, verify security settings or judge your home, disability access or suitability for employment.
Access is different from confidence
You may understand a tool well but lack permission to use the project’s files. You may also have access yet need training or an accessible alternative. These are different issues with different owners. Treat an unresolved resource as a condition to discuss, rather than evidence that you are unmotivated. A successful trial of one task also does not prove that every duty in a role can be moved online.
The shared file opens for only one person
Imagine a remote research assistant rehearsing a report update. Their own account opens the draft, but a reviewer cannot access the linked source folder. The trial has uncovered a handover and permissions issue, not a general lack of digital skill. An appropriate next step is to ask the responsible person about an approved access arrangement, without copying restricted information into an unapproved service to make the rehearsal work.
Try an ordinary task with dummy material
Choose one representative task and use dummy content wherever possible. Check that you can reach the approved tool, identify the current working file and locate the support route if something fails. Rehearse notifying the team about a lost connection without actually disabling equipment or changing permissions. Note what required another person’s help and what remains unresolved. The test needs only your stage choice, not a screenshot or access credential.
Working conditions are a shared concern
Equipment, accessibility, connectivity and a suitable place to work are not entirely individual responsibilities. The HSE source is guidance for Great Britain’s home and hybrid working context; it highlights employer consideration of resources and the working environment. It is not a universal legal rule supplied by this test. For your arrangement, identify the responsible organization or client and discuss the support needed rather than treating a self-report as a risk assessment.
Keep uncertainty visible
A numeric mean requires four numeric stage choices. If a condition is not applicable, cannot be assessed or is private, the non-rating choice withholds this group’s mean rather than scoring the condition as zero. Other groups remain available. These original action summaries are not an equipment inspection or a certification of remote readiness. Revisit the item rows when tools, permissions, location or the task changes.
