Review how you describe a pause in contact
These four items concern reports of pausing when you need space, explaining your situation and changes in contact rhythm.
The mean describes overall endorsement of these four statements, without a good/bad or high/low category.
The source group and its present reading
- Original source group: Distance that stepping away might create. The public reading uses Pausing contact and explaining your situation. The earlier name is source history, not proof of an effect on another person.
- Self-reported clues about pausing contact and explaining your situation when you need space.
- The items cover reducing contact before explaining, leaving when tired without a return arrangement, leaving messages without explanation, and resuming contact without explaining a pause.
A four-item example, without a category
- The mean describes overall endorsement of these four statements, without a good/bad or high/low category.
- For example, responses of 2, 5, 3 and 4 sum to 14. The raw sum is 14 within 4–20, and 14/4 = 3.50 on 1–5. No items are reversed. The source midpoint 3 means uncertain or situation-dependent and is a valid numeric answer, not missing data. This arithmetic describes endorsement of the four statements, not a percentage of people who dislike you.
What the summary cannot establish
- The items describe only your self-report, without other people’s feelings or evaluations. They cannot confirm that you are cold or that distance was created.
- This cannot show coldness, an avoidant personality, deliberate disappearance, punishment, lack of care or an inevitable creation of distance.
- Pausing contact does not mean coldness.
- Self-protection is not a defect to repair.
- You need not promise when contact will resume.
Questions to check against a real occasion
- You may review how you usually pause when you need space and whether protection or safety mattered.
- Recall a recent pause in contact and whether it was for protection or safety.
- Was the lack of explanation habitual, or was explaining itself unsafe? Only you can check that distinction.
- The group sum does not recover an individual answer. Two different patterns can produce the same sum. A remembered occasion is a voluntary way to add context, not a requirement to prove a result. No other person was interviewed, and your report cannot tell us whether anyone noticed, agreed or was affected.
One possible conversation and a counterexample
Suppose you want quiet after an ordinary, safe conversation. You might say: “I do not have energy to continue now. I am taking some space.” You can add availability only if you freely want to. A counterexample is promising a return time you do not intend to keep merely to improve a result. An explanation is optional, and stopping unsafe contact needs neither negotiation nor a promised return.
Boundaries and safety remain yours
- You may stop contact with an unsafe person without promising to return. A pause need not include a promise to resume, and protection is not a defect that needs repair.
- You do not need to maintain contact to avoid being disliked. Stepping away does not establish coldness or punishment.
- An action suggestion can be declined. You need not make a new disclosure, restart contact, negotiate with an unsafe person or seek approval before protecting yourself. A clear no remains a complete boundary. These ordinary-interaction prompts do not turn coercion or harassment into a shared communication task.
A small optional action, with no promised outcome
- If you wish and it is safe, you could briefly state your situation when pausing. You may also choose not to; directly pausing is valid when safety does not allow an explanation.
- You may instead keep one private note or end here. Changing how you express something does not guarantee agreement, trust or liking, and you are not solely responsible for another person’s interpretation. The public link shares a general reading only. Neither an explanation nor a repeated attempt is required to complete this reflection.
Five separate readings and their limits
- This is a product-organised area for self-observation, without independent psychometric validation.
- Read all five groups separately: there is no total, ranking, leading cause, threshold, severity band or social-value score. Equal sums do not mean equal consequences because their items differ. This original source edition has no completed reliability, validity, norms, fairness, percentile or accuracy verification. Self-presentation and understanding can affect the answers. A later difference may reflect the situation or your interpretation and does not certify a change in interaction style.
