Describe the adopted statements without grading obedience
The official inhibition group contains five statements about acting before thinking, stopping preferred activities, laughter in an unsuitable setting and perceived liveliness. Larger values indicate more endorsement of these statements, without defining a disorder or character type.
Sum items 3, 4, 6, 10 and 14 for 5–25; divide by five for the labelled 1–5 mean. All five numeric answers are required.
Which five statements contribute
The official two-part ADEXI key assigns items 3, 4, 6, 10 and 14 to inhibition. These concern doing something before considering consequences, stopping a liked activity when told it is not allowed, refraining from laughter in an unsuitable setting, stopping an enjoyable activity at bedtime and seeming livelier or wilder than peers. The last item is retained as part of the source key; liveliness alone is not proof of impairment. This is a report about how well statements describe you, rather than a count of incidents or an observed test of response inhibition.
Calculate a sum and its labelled mean
Each numeric answer keeps its selected value from 1 to 5. No statement is reversed. The five values add to a raw sum from 5 to 25, and the part mean is that sum divided by five. For example, responses 2, 3, 1, 4 and 2 give 12 and 2.40. The colour-coded official form labels part totals, while the separate official subscale file labels part means; both presentations are made explicit here. The larger possible raw sum in the nine-item working-memory group does not make that group a stronger trait or a more serious problem.
Stopping an enjoyable activity
Imagine planning to leave a familiar activity at a certain time but finding yourself continuing beyond that point. You could note the agreed time, whether a cue was available and what you did when you noticed. A counterexample is choosing to stay because plans changed with everyone's agreement; that choice is not automatically an inhibition failure. Similarly, disagreement with an unreasonable restriction does not establish a cognitive deficit or a moral flaw. The questionnaire cannot judge whether a rule was fair, what another person intended or why a particular situation unfolded.
Do not turn endorsement into a neurotype
Larger values indicate more endorsement of the adopted inhibition statements, not better inhibitory control. Smaller values do not certify safe decisions, dependable work or the absence of a condition. This edition applies no diagnostic threshold, ADHD-versus-autism pattern, population rank, celebrity comparison or career match. It also does not assign a superior or inferior personality. Equal numbers in the two parts describe different item sets; nearby numbers across attempts need not show meaningful change. Consider the concrete examples you had in mind, without using a score to judge someone else's intentions or worth.
Skipped items withhold this part
All five numeric inhibition answers are required to display its sum and mean. A skip withholds these and the overall fourteen-item total, while a complete working-memory group keeps its own values. Missing is not zero, a low rating or an average substituted by the website. Nothing is prorated. All fourteen skip choices can finish the questionnaire with no calculated scores and all public readings still accessible. This is an editorial completeness policy, not a source-validated missing-data threshold. You can decline to answer a statement without treating the absence of a score as a personal failure.
A voluntary cue and the supplied wording
For one manageable activity you want to stop, you could decide on a stopping point, place a visible cue and privately note what happened. This is an optional observation, without a promise of treatment or improved capacity. The current official ADEXI English and Angela Siu simplified-Chinese wording is retained, including the Chinese expression “睇电视” for watching television. The website has not established language equivalence or its own psychometric validation. If difficulties persist in daily life, a qualified professional can consider their history and context; these five responses cannot select a diagnosis, medication or a course of care.
