Notice how you keep time, ideas or feelings private before deciding what comes next.
Read six recent-choice observations about quiet time and private ideas, with an exact example and context that keeps distance separate from disinterest.
This guide summarises six direct frequency ratings from the past four weeks. A complete sum ranges from six to thirty, and its unrounded value divided by six supplies the one-to-five mean. Higher describes more frequent reports of the listed private choices. It does not count creative ideas or determine a capacity for closeness. NA withholds the personal values for this theme.
A quoted term, without an identity assignment
The quoted historical label is “retentive hysteric” in Smith’s 2014 interpretation. Our everyday heading is Private Imaginative Distance. The original prompts concern quiet activity after social time, developing an idea privately, holding back to interpret a discussion and keeping a feeling to yourself before responding. The items describe recent choices, not an explanation of someone’s inner life. The historical name is quoted as a reference to old vocabulary. It is not applied to the respondent as a clinical, gender or sexual identity.
Read private space in relation to what it serves
A higher mean indicates that you more often reported the listed private or quieter choices. You may have wanted time to develop an idea, preferred a particular working arrangement or paused before joining a new plan. You might also notice a situation where keeping something private left a practical question unclear. The result cannot decide what the space was doing for you. Look at whether the choice suited the activity and whether any shared arrangement needed clarification. Privacy and meaningful contact can both be present in a person’s ordinary life.
Less reported distance leaves imagination unmeasured
A lower mean records fewer reports of these six actions. It does not establish less imagination, stronger intimacy or a greater wish to socialize. Your ideas may have developed through conversation, your schedule may have offered little private time or the situations in the prompts may have occurred rarely. The checklist does not choose among those accounts. It also does not measure the quality of any idea. Read the number as a limited report about actions during four weeks, keeping the surrounding opportunities and constraints in view.
Private ideas and quiet time need not move together
Someone may often write an idea privately but rarely turn down a social plan. Another person may protect quiet time while sharing new thoughts as soon as they appear. Similar means can conceal those differences. Looking at each prompt is more informative than assuming a single detached style. The same person can also be expressive in a familiar setting and private before an unfamiliar discussion. The other seven themes are kept separate; a numerical comparison cannot settle which one is your real personality or explain why the choices differed.
Calculate one complete set of choices
Suppose the six ratings are four, four, five, three, two and four. Their sum is twenty-two; dividing by six gives 3.6666…, displayed as 3.67. This is a descriptive mean of ordered frequency codes. It is not a percentage of imagination, a measure of relationship distance or a comparison with other people. All six valid ratings are required. If an item about a private imaginative task is unfamiliar and receives NA, the personal sum and mean for this theme remain unavailable. The full guide still explains the method.
A private draft can prepare a later conversation
Sam works alone on a sketch before showing it to a group because an unfinished idea is easier to explore privately. Later Sam shares a version and asks for comments. That private stage does not prove emotional detachment. In another situation, holding back a practical detail could make a shared arrangement harder to follow. The visible action of keeping something to yourself can therefore have different roles. Understanding it requires the purpose, the timing and what happened next; the questionnaire cannot infer an identity or an inability to connect.
Make one boundary or next step clearer to yourself
Privately choose a recent moment when you kept time or an idea to yourself. Write what you were protecting, what remained undecided and whether anything needed to be communicated for a shared task. You could draft a short description of when you might return to the topic, without sending it or being required to share private material. You may also decide that no further step is needed. The aim is clarity about the choice and its context, rather than proving that you should spend more or less time with others.
Keep the original reflection within the evidence
The quoted label is attributed to Smith’s 2014 personal interpretation of eight historical themes. Our prompts, Chinese wording and guides are newly written and concern recent observable choices. Six direct items per theme use one-to-five frequency codes for four weeks. A personal raw sum and mean require all six valid ratings; NA preserves insufficient information. The unrounded sum is divided by six and displayed to two decimals. These conventions establish no population norm or independent validation, and they cannot infer sexuality, gender, childhood experience or a clinical state.
