Make the shared agreement clear
Review responsibilities, editing permissions and audiences while distinguishing bounded clarification from control or interrogation.
All six valid responses are required for the 6–30 raw sum and 1–5 mean. Higher means these actions were reported more often, not ability, a type or another person’s reliability.
Clarify the shared agreement
- This part concerns whether you clarified responsibilities, editing permissions, audiences and the parts of an arrangement that could be changed. The relevant information belongs to a shared task and can be discussed by those involved. It is not a search for another person’s secrets. Asking a clear question does not establish global distrust, and this mean does not measure an ability to detect lies. It records your reported frequency of six particular clarification actions.
- More confirmation is not automatically better. One sentence can be enough for a small arrangement, while some formal tasks routinely require a record. Task complexity, communication channels and existing procedures can all affect how often clarification occurs. Recall opportunities during the past four weeks rather than creating new requests to complete the bank. If a statement has no relevant example, NA is a valid response and is preferable to an invented middle-frequency answer.
Read the task before the mean
- A higher mean indicates more frequent responses to these clarification statements; it does not establish rationality, intelligence or resistance to deception. A lower mean does not establish gullibility. You may work within a clear procedure or have had few shared arrangements recently. If one answer is especially high, ask whether a single complicated task created repeated questions or whether several settings contributed. The score cannot distinguish those situations without information outside the bank.
- Mixed responses can remain mixed. You may write down responsibilities but rarely clarify forwarding permissions, or ask for examples without having edited shared material. Do not use the average to erase those differences. This edition has no suspicion bands and assigns no type from the highest mean. Clarification and offering an opening are not treated as opposite endpoints that cancel one another. They describe different actions, which can occur within the same exchange.
Worked example: twenty-three divided by six
- For responses of 5, 4, 4, 3, 5 and 2, the sum is 23. Twenty-three divided by six is 3.833…, displayed as 3.8. Every statement uses its direct frequency score, without a reverse transformation. A mean of 3.8 is not 76 percent accuracy. There is no externally correct answer to each statement, and the bank does not count every question you asked or verify whether another person ultimately followed through.
- If one response is NA, the valid-item count is five out of six and this part’s sum and mean are withheld. Complete responses in another part do not fill the gap. The average of the remaining five entries is not presented as a six-item result either. Other complete parts and all four full guides remain available. General examples on this public page are explanations of the rule, not replacements for an unavailable personal score.
Editing permissions in a shared poster
- Imagine preparing a public poster with a community-event partner. Before editing, you ask: “May I change the date and layout directly, or should I send you a draft first? Who will see this version?” The questions concern material for which you share responsibility. They are specific and bounded, and the other person can state which decisions they wish to retain. No personal history or unrelated private information is needed to clarify this arrangement.
- If a shared note already answers the question, you can refer to that agreement rather than repeatedly demanding reassurance. If two versions later differ, identify the specific difference before asking which arrangement applies. The resulting information concerns the task. It does not certify honesty or responsibility in every future situation. Even a perfectly clear agreement cannot eliminate every uncertainty, and a misunderstanding alone does not reveal someone’s entire character or intentions.
Separate clarification from control
- Clarification makes the shared scope understandable while leaving room for refusal or an alternative. Control may demand unrelated private information or remove the other person’s ability to decline. The clarification described here does not require reading messages, tracking movements or obtaining passwords. Calling such a demand “just checking” does not make it part of this bank’s scope. The label used for an action is less informative than what is requested and whether refusal is possible.
- Compared with building in stages, this part mainly concerns the current agreement rather than how scope changes after an experience. Compared with offering an opening, it does not decide whether you gave an initial opportunity. Compared with protective distance, asking a question does not necessarily mean declining cooperation. All four kinds of actions can occur during the same period. They are editorial topic groups rather than confirmed factors or competing identities, so there is no need to choose a side.
A feeling need not become an interrogation
- A friend says they lack the energy to join an optional activity. Repeatedly demanding proof of their tiredness is not clarification of a shared task detail, and the feeling may not be documentable. A high clarification mean does not justify an interrogation or establish dishonesty when proof is unavailable. The questionnaire does not determine which emotional statement is true. It should not be used to grade another person’s feelings or make participation a condition of being believed.
- Another counterexample is continually adding questions to postpone a small collaboration you were already free to decline. You can choose not to participate without making someone answer an endless list first. Appropriateness, safety and willingness require information beyond six frequency responses. The mean neither substitutes for those judgments nor creates an obligation to cooperate once questions are answered. Clarity can include a straightforward limit or a respectful decision to stop.
Turn one uncertainty into a bounded question
- If useful, privately choose an ordinary shared arrangement that has already happened. Note one unclear agreement, who was involved in that agreement and one sufficiently bounded question. For example: “Is this draft for the group only?” Do not turn the exercise into another person’s reliability checklist. Leave out names, message transcripts and third-party private information. No record needs to be uploaded, and no new interaction is required to complete the reflection.
- Then ask yourself what non-pressuring choices remain if the answer is unknown or the other person declines to answer. You might narrow the task, use public material or not participate. This is a way to examine the scope of a question, not a promised method for increasing trust, eliminating misunderstandings or changing someone else. Thinking through the example once is sufficient; you may stop without making a plan or taking another test.
The evidence boundary of reported frequency
- The six original statements and four-part grouping have not established psychometric validity, diagnostic usefulness or cross-language equivalence. This is not the published partner-trust scale and supplies no deception-detection score, relationship-quality verdict or fixed personality conclusion. Higher and lower readings have no population norm in this edition. A mean is not a percentile, and there is no universal boundary separating healthy from unhealthy clarification. Use the specific action descriptions as the limit of interpretation.
- A new task, communication channel, collaborator or recall period can change frequency responses on a retake. A small numerical difference is not established improvement. Every full guide remains freely readable, and personal answers do not belong in a public link. Sharing the general explanation is enough. Another framework requires its own full attempt rather than a conversion from this mean. Ending here is a valid next step, with no need to justify your result to anyone.
