Notice what you retain and carry
Reflect on working alone, keeping information private and retaining backups, without treating distance as a defect.
All six valid responses are required for the 6–30 raw sum and 1–5 mean. Higher means these actions were reported more often, not ability, a type or another person’s reliability.
Distance is a set of actions, not a defect label
- This part records reported frequency of handling a task alone, keeping an ordinary concern private, stepping away from uncertain cooperation and making a backup. It does not decide whether something is wrong with you or trace these actions to childhood or a mental-health condition. Similar actions can reflect privacy, energy, convenience, experience or a judgment about the present setting. The statements cannot determine which reason applies. Begin with the action and its context rather than a story about what caused your personality.
- The bank concerns ordinary, low-risk situations where refusal remains possible. Saying no, retaining independent decisions and keeping information private do not require permission from a questionnaire. Letting someone closer is not prescribed as everyone’s goal. You may want to understand a choice without changing it. The guide therefore focuses on what you retained, what you handled yourself and whether that arrangement matched your needs, rather than treating greater openness as an automatic improvement.
Read frequent, infrequent and mixed responses separately
- A higher mean says only that these six kinds of actions were reported more frequently. It does not establish that you are difficult, lonely or unable to trust. A lower mean does not establish an absence of boundaries; you may manage uncertainty through explicit agreements or seek help only in suitable settings. The bank does not collect a complete account of social support, actual safety or relationship outcomes. Those matters cannot be inferred from the arithmetic.
- Mixed answers can preserve a useful distinction. You may prefer doing small tasks yourself while readily discussing an ordinary concern, or join a collaboration while retaining a backup. Neither pattern needs to be compressed into a walls-up identity. The largest of the four topic means is not assigned as a type. There is no numerical threshold for normality, excessive guardedness or an obligation to become more open, and differences between means have no established clinical meaning.
Worked example: sixteen divided by six
- For six responses of 4, 2, 3, 4, 1 and 2, the raw sum is 16. Sixteen divided by six is 2.666…, displayed as 2.7. Every statement keeps its direct direction. More frequent distance-related actions are not reverse-scored as poor health or subtracted from the other parts. The mean is not 54 percent guardedness. It averages six response categories without counting all the occasions on which an action could have occurred.
- If one item is NA, the page shows five out of six valid responses and withholds this part’s sum and mean. NA is neither infrequency, zero nor an average response, and it is not predicted from the remaining entries. Other complete parts can still show their own results. All four full public guides remain readable without score-based unlocking, shortened explanations or payment. The general examples do not become personal findings when a score is unavailable.
Whether a backup still serves its purpose
- Imagine preparing a public playlist with an event partner. The roles are clear, but you make a backup of the part assigned to them. The backup may feel reassuring, while also using time you had planned for rest. Examine the actual effort, whether the backup conflicts with the agreement and whether you still want it. There is no need to decide first that the action was either wise or defective. The questionnaire cannot estimate the backup’s practical value for that event.
- You can privately ask: “What purpose does this backup serve, and what outcome could I accept if I did not use it today?” If you choose to discuss it, keep the conversation about the specific division of work rather than a global statement about the person. You may also retain the backup, decline a discussion or choose an appropriately independent task. These are options for understanding the arrangement, not steps required to produce a better score.
Notice retained resources and actual costs
- Distance can leave information and decisions under your control, and working independently may suit your energy or pace. At the same time, an actual extra workload or an ordinary need left unspoken can be a cost worth noticing. These possibilities depend on the situation. A high mean does not establish that you are hard to hurt or that you have missed a good relationship. Look for a concrete resource retained and a concrete cost incurred rather than accepting either broad claim.
- You might ask whether a cost actually troubles you or merely inconveniences someone who wants more access. If you do not want a change, there is no need to increase contact to fit an image of an open person. If something does trouble you, identify a small question over which you retain choice. That is different from requiring yourself to trust everyone. This reflection supplies neither a treatment plan nor evidence that greater contact would help.
Distance, boundaries, clarification and staging
- A clear boundary can coexist with substantial cooperation: accept one limited task while declining additional work. Clarification can make that scope explicit; staging can limit commitment to the present step; an opening can be a single ordinary opinion. None requires surrendering independent decisions. These actions also need not exclude protective distance in another area. Read the four parts as separate descriptions of what you reported, rather than a competition in which one must replace the others.
- Handling something alone does not establish that others are unreliable. A person who does not know your need has not necessarily refused to help, while an unsolicited offer does not prove that the help is suitable. This questionnaire has not observed another person’s actions. It should not be used to assign a type to a friend, colleague or partner or to establish that anyone owes someone else greater closeness. Its evidence is limited to your own responses.
A review that requires no new contact
- If useful, choose one ordinary event that has already happened. Privately note what you retained, what you handled yourself and whether you were satisfied with the arrangement. Thinking through it without a written record is enough. Omit names, private messages and other people’s secrets. “Satisfied, with no change wanted” is a legitimate conclusion. The exercise does not require contacting anyone, disclosing information or accepting help, and completing it is not a condition for reading the report.
- If you want to carry a little less, you can privately consider one option with a clear scope and an available refusal, then decide whether it fits. Where no suitable person or setting is available, leaving things unchanged is reasonable. Threats, control or an inability to refuse fall outside the ordinary interactions described here. The questionnaire is not a reason to continue contact, and infrequent responses are not proof of progress that you need to demonstrate.
Keep the conclusion within this edition’s evidence
- The four parts are original FermatMind topic groupings, not established psychological factors. They have no diagnostic validation, population reference or demonstrated cultural equivalence. Published trust measures and these twenty-four everyday-action statements are different instruments. General research context does not establish that this part can measure trauma, attachment type, relationship destiny or another person’s trustworthiness. The transparent formula is a way to summarize responses; arithmetic correctness is not evidence of those broader measurement claims.
- Before retaking, compare the time period and opportunities rather than aiming for a lower distance mean. Circumstances, task demands and memory can change responses, so a small difference does not establish improvement or decline. Public guides contain no personal answers, and a general explanation link does not publish your mean. You can clear progress and finish here. Another assessment requires a separate full attempt and does not become necessary because of the pattern shown in this reflection.
