English and Chinese passage modes · 60 seconds per round · No signup · Corrections allowed
Timing starts immediately when you press start. Backspace and corrections are allowed. Only the final text committed within 60 seconds counts; unfinished IME composition does not. Spaces, numbers and punctuation count.
60 seconds remaining
Original passage (copy it exactly)
0 / 1451 characters committed. Underlines mark positional mismatches. Correct them within the timed round; if you reach the end, wait for the timer.
Moving the page to the background or a clock divergence cancels the round; refresh loses progress. Input stays in page memory: no drafts, server submission, link payload or analytics event. Device and IME suggestions can affect results; this is not a proctored certification.
Use a real one-minute copy round, then review what your speed and accuracy actually describe. Two independently written fictional passages stay in their original English and Chinese in both interfaces. The result separates final output from positional matches and states the correction, timing and IME rules. All metrics and both complete language guides are free at every result. Device, keyboard, input-method help and passage familiarity can affect the attempt. No population norms, fast/slow labels, cross-language equivalence, job-performance prediction or recruitment cutoff is established.
Choose English or Chinese. Press start to begin a full 60 seconds, then type the original passage manually. Backspace and replacement are allowed. Only the final committed buffer before the deadline counts; unfinished input-method composition is excluded. English uses five-character WPM units, Chinese uses CPM without a WPM conversion. Spaces and punctuation count. Positional accuracy is matches divided by entered characters; an empty round has no applicable accuracy. This is not a keystroke counter, edit-distance score, employer exam or certificate.
The fixed duration is 60 seconds. The final committed buffer is normalized to canonical Unicode form, then counted as grapheme characters. Spaces, punctuation, digits and letters are included. English gross WPM is final characters/5 and position-correct WPM is matching characters/5. Chinese reports final and position-correct CPM, without a WPM figure. Accuracy is matching positions/final characters × 100; an empty buffer has no applicable accuracy. Display values round to one decimal, with no hidden band or error penalty.
English: 250 final characters with 240 positional matches give 50 gross WPM, 48 position-correct WPM and 96% accuracy. Chinese: 120 final characters with 114 matches give 120 CPM, 114 position-correct CPM and 95% accuracy. Corrected/deleted characters do not accumulate. Untyped source characters are not errors in these denominators. These fictional counts illustrate the formulas; they are not averages or targets.
The start button starts the clock immediately, including reading and corrections. Browser monotonic time defines the deadline, checked against wall time for large divergences. A hidden page cancels the round; no hidden pause or resumed speed is reported. IME text still composing at the deadline is excluded. Reload, cancellation and mode changes clear the input; after a result the raw text is cleared and only page-local aggregates remain. No input is stored in a draft, server payload, URL or analytics event.
The copying passages, rules and guides are original to FermatMind. The five-character convention provides context, but this site’s final-buffer and positional-accuracy definitions are its own. Different tools can count output, edits or errors differently. Paste/drop controls do not certify human-only input, input-method behaviour or hiring validity. The finite passage can cap output if you finish it before the timer. Choose consistent conditions and read both guides before comparing attempts.
Each language has complete formulas, examples, correction, IME and device notes. Read them before starting; no speed unlocks or restricts content. These are mode guides, not score bands or private input records.
Understand the fixed 60-second English round, five-character WPM, final-text corrections and positional accuracy. Full examples, without norms or certificates.
Read Chinese characters per minute separately from English WPM. Worked counts explain IME composition, punctuation, corrections and a fixed 60-second round.
Yes. Pressing start begins a real 60-second round, with live remaining time. Final input is frozen at the deadline; there is no early speed result. Reading and correcting are included. If you finish the finite passage, correct it if needed and wait for the minute to end.
English WPM uses five final characters per unit. Chinese uses characters per minute without converting to English WPM. Both include spaces, punctuation, letters and digits and use positional final-text accuracy. These are not calibrated cross-language scores.
Yes. You may backspace and replace text during the round. Deleted or corrected characters do not accumulate as output or errors; the time spent correcting still counts. IME composition must be committed before the deadline. Device and prediction behaviour can affect the result, and this is not proctored.
This version compares corresponding positions, not edit distance. An omitted space can shift the following letters. The source highlight shows matching and underlined mismatching positions. Untyped source remainder is not counted as wrong.
No. All metrics and both full guides are free, without signup, payment or email. This short original practice has no norm group, fixed ability label or employer acceptance. Do not infer job suitability or language proficiency from the number.
Input stays in page memory and is not saved. Refresh loses the attempt; moving it to the background cancels it. Raw text clears on cancellation or completion. Optional sharing copies only the public title and link, without input or results.
References describe their own formulas or browser behaviour; they do not validate this passage bank, training outcomes or hiring use. FermatMind counts final committed characters and positional matches, without adopting another site’s accuracy or penalty algorithm. Passages and guides are original to this edition.
