Read speed and positional accuracy together.
Understand the fixed 60-second English round, five-character WPM, final-text corrections and positional accuracy. Full examples, without norms or certificates.
These are mode instructions, not a speed band. Every complete guide is available before and after any round, including a zero-input round. A 60-second copy sample does not establish an employer qualification, population percentile or language ability.
Five characters form one WPM unit
In the English mode, gross WPM is final committed characters divided by five over the fixed one-minute window. Letters, digits, spaces and punctuation count. This is a conventional five-character unit, not a count of dictionary words. Position-correct WPM uses only the characters that match the source at the same position, again divided by five. It is labelled explicitly rather than presented as a universal net-WPM formula. Other tools may count mistakes or apply penalties differently.
A complete worked result
Suppose the final buffer contains 250 characters after 60 seconds, of which 240 match their source positions. Gross speed is 250/5 = 50 WPM. Position-correct speed is 240/5 = 48 WPM. Ten positions mismatch, and final-text accuracy is 240/250 × 100 = 96%. The untyped remainder of the source does not enter that denominator. Read the entered/source count as coverage of this passage, not a second accuracy score or a measure of reading comprehension.
Corrections change the final buffer
Backspace, selection and replacement are allowed during the timed round. If you enter 270 characters in total but delete or replace some and finish with 250, the speed calculation uses the final 250, not a cumulative key-event count. A corrected error is not penalized twice. Time spent making the correction still belongs to the same 60 seconds. This supports a copy-and-correct practice task; it is not a measure of physical keystroke rate or a comparison with a no-backspace test.
An omission can shift later positions
This edition compares positions, not edit distance. For a short illustration, source “cat sat” and final input “catsat” match only the first three positions: the missing space shifts the rest. Accuracy is therefore 3/6 = 50%, although an editing tool could repair the string with one insertion. The rule is deliberately transparent. Use the source highlight to locate where alignment first changed, correct the buffer if time remains and avoid treating the mismatch count as a count of separate motor slips.
The button starts the entire minute
You may inspect the original passage before starting. Pressing start begins the clock immediately, including the time needed to focus, read or correct; the first letter does not start a new clock. If the passage is exhausted, you may correct it and wait for the minute to end. The source length then limits the count. Moving the page to the background, a large clock divergence or a refresh clears the attempt instead of pausing a score for later resumption.
Compare practice conditions before numbers
Keyboard layout, screen size, familiarity with the fixed passage and editing habits can change the round. Browser spelling and prediction requests are disabled where supported, but the tool cannot certify how an operating-system input method assists you. Paste and drop are blocked in the interface, without claiming proctoring or cheating detection. Keep your own device and conditions consistent when reviewing attempts. This one-minute sample does not measure a sustained work shift, composition quality or a role-specific typing requirement.
Use a specific next practice step
Review whether your main obstacle was finding keys, preserving spaces and punctuation, or losing alignment after an omission. Practise one of those operations slowly with a new short fictional sentence, then use the timed passage again if helpful. Repetition can improve familiarity without proving a general skill change. The guide remains available at every result, including no input, for which accuracy is not applicable. No percentile, fast/slow label, certificate purchase or further personality test is required.
