Explore one reversible route before settling.
These statements concern generating and trying a modest alternative. They do not measure creativity, risk appetite, abstract reasoning or the quality of any actual solution.
Difference = Most selections minus Least selections, from −8 to +8 for this topic. Every complete attempt has sixteen Most and sixteen Least selections across all eight topics, so their differences always sum to zero.
What this topic records
- These statements concern generating and trying a modest alternative. They do not measure creativity, risk appetite, abstract reasoning or the quality of any actual solution.
- Each topic appears in eight blocks, twice in each option position. This gives the same number of opportunities to select it, without establishing equal difficulty, desirability or measurement validity.
A concrete example
- For example, you might test two headings on a disposable draft before polishing the final document. The experiment is limited and reversible; it need not involve a risky operational change.
- Ask whether that example fits your current circumstances. School, paid work and unpaid projects can offer different opportunities; the exercise does not adjust for those differences.
When Most is selected more often
- A higher Most count says that trying another route often won a forced comparison in this exercise. It does not show that the alternative worked or that you always prefer novelty.
- The Most count is the number of its eight appearances selected as Most. It is not the frequency with which you performed this action outside the exercise.
When Least is selected more often
- A higher Least count could reflect a settled procedure, limited time or a setting where experimentation needs permission. Familiar methods may already be appropriate.
- Least means less characteristic relative to the other three statements in that block. It does not mean that you never do the action, dislike it or lack the ability.
A useful trade-off to consider
- Generating more options can delay a decision. Choose a stopping condition before exploring, such as one comparison or a ten-minute sketch, while respecting real task constraints.
- Keep both counts visible. Four Most and four Least choices produce the same zero difference as zero and zero, while describing a different pattern of selections.
One optional next step
- Pick a low-stakes draft and write one alternative next to the usual approach. Record what changed and what stayed unclear; do not use this page to rehearse an employer-preferred personality.
- There is no target score to reach. Repeating the exercise may change the counts as your context or interpretation changes; it is not evidence that your personality has improved.
