See whether two people mean the same thing.
These statements concern checking the meaning of an exchange. They do not measure empathy, emotional intelligence, persuasiveness or another person’s willingness to agree.
Difference = Most selections minus Least selections, from −8 to +8 for this topic. Every complete attempt has sixteen Most and sixteen Least selections across all eight topics, so their differences always sum to zero.
What this topic records
- These statements concern checking the meaning of an exchange. They do not measure empathy, emotional intelligence, persuasiveness or another person’s willingness to agree.
- Each topic appears in eight blocks, twice in each option position. This gives the same number of opportunities to select it, without establishing equal difficulty, desirability or measurement validity.
A concrete example
- You might repeat a request in your own words and ask whether you missed anything. This tests your interpretation of the request, not the other person’s intelligence or sincerity.
- Ask whether that example fits your current circumstances. School, paid work and unpaid projects can offer different opportunities; the exercise does not adjust for those differences.
When Most is selected more often
- More Most selections can indicate that checking meaning often won the comparison. It does not show that agreement was achieved or that everyone felt heard.
- The Most count is the number of its eight appearances selected as Most. It is not the frequency with which you performed this action outside the exercise.
When Least is selected more often
- More Least selections could reflect familiar shorthand, solitary work or another action that felt more characteristic. A low count does not diagnose social difficulty.
- Least means less characteristic relative to the other three statements in that block. It does not mean that you never do the action, dislike it or lack the ability.
A useful trade-off to consider
- Checking can feel repetitive if the meaning is already clear. Ask a specific question about the point that matters, and accept a concise correction without demanding agreement.
- Keep both counts visible. Four Most and four Least choices produce the same zero difference as zero and zero, while describing a different pattern of selections.
One optional next step
- At one handoff, state your interpretation in a sentence and invite a correction. Notice whether the correction changes the work; do not treat silence as proof of agreement.
- There is no target score to reach. Repeating the exercise may change the counts as your context or interpretation changes; it is not evidence that your personality has improved.
