Trust does not require unlimited access
Read nine CTL-I 2018 trust statements, two reverse keys, a complete example and why disclosure and safety cannot be decided by a mean.
Items 13 and 15 are reversed with 5−x; the other seven retain their raw values. The nine-item keyed sum is 9–36 and its mean is 1–4.
Read all nine source statements
The 2018 basic-trust domain covers expected empathy and emotional support, openness about weaknesses, feelings and needs, honesty, secrets, a sense that relationships are limited, and comfort and safety with a partner. Some statements concern your actions and others your perceptions of the relationship. The group cannot verify either account or tell us whether trust is warranted. Its source label does not make a personal mean a test of honesty, attachment or the objective safety of another person.
Locate the two reverse keys
For items 8–16, take raw choices 3, 4, 3, 2, 4, 1, 3, 2 and 4. Item 13 is the sixth choice here and becomes 5−1 = 4; item 15 is the eighth and becomes 5−2 = 3. The keyed values sum to 30, with 30/9 displayed as 3.33. The underlying mean stays unrounded. Item 15 retains the original short statement about relationships being limited; the page does not replace it with wording from a later author-site edition.
Ask about support without demanding disclosure
In a safe ordinary situation, you might say: “I have a concern, but I do not want to share every detail. Would you be willing to listen to the part I choose to explain?” That makes support a request and privacy explicit. A counterexample is demanding passwords or a full account of private conversations because a reversed secrets item allegedly proves that privacy is dishonest. The questionnaire supports no such demand. Someone may trust a partner while keeping personal information to themselves.
A keyed number is not permission to inspect
A larger keyed mean corresponds to more endorsement of the forward statements and less endorsement of keeping secrets or feeling relationships limited. It does not show how much a person ought to disclose. A lower value is not proof of deceit, poor character or an inability to love. The secrecy item can be understood differently across contexts, including safety and privacy. Reverse scoring preserves the source key; it does not resolve those interpretive differences or override anyone’s right to say no.
Your feeling of safety is not a safety assessment
A self-report about comfort and safety cannot establish that a relationship is safe. Past experience, fear, dependence, practical constraints and the current interaction can affect an answer, and the form does not separate them. You do not need to disclose a concern to someone you fear or try to increase a trust mean. A change between attempts may concern a different period or understanding. No threshold here identifies a disorder, a relationship risk level or the reason another person behaves as they do.
Unanswered is not a confession
The source form has four numeric choices and no NA, so the web requires all forty-one recognised choices for personal results. It does not average only the answered trust items or replace an answer with zero. If you do not wish to consider a statement, stop and use the six public guides without a score. You do not have to invent a middle answer or reveal anything to complete the reading. No unfinished attempt indicates secrecy, resistance or an unwillingness to face a problem.
Keep the edition and its translation limits visible
English follows the forty-one items in Kapusta et al. (2018), Table 1, licensed CC BY 4.0; Chinese is a new FermatMind working translation with changes identified. The original study used German and Polish samples and does not validate this English display or new Chinese. The 2018 text states a four-point scale; current author-site endpoints provide a separate wording reference, not proof of a complete original English protocol. Choices 2 and 3 remain numbers, without invented intermediate official labels.
Choose the boundary as well as the question
If useful, privately separate what support you want, what you are willing to share and what you want to keep private. You can leave the note unsent. A conversation requires voluntary participation, and no partner owes access to personal records because of a result. If disclosure or contact feels unsafe, you can stop here. Do not use this domain to screen partners, certify trustworthiness or make a decision about staying; the test provides no authority over those choices.
