These descriptions concern feeling understood, being told not to feel a certain way, someone seeking understanding before advice, worrying that feelings were too much, and speaking without having to defend a feeling. They are recollections of responses, not a scale of whether your reactions were correct.
Six category counts retain five individual descriptions, without points, reversal, totals or a verdict about childhood.
A response can acknowledge a feeling without agreeing to every request
- These descriptions concern feeling understood, being told not to feel a certain way, someone seeking understanding before advice, worrying that feelings were too much, and speaking without having to defend a feeling. They are recollections of responses, not a scale of whether your reactions were correct.
- Acknowledging a feeling is different from approving every action or granting every wish. Conversely, a practical explanation does not tell us whether you felt heard. A short record cannot determine another person’s intentions, moral character or willingness to care, or resolve disagreements about the past.
Read labels, not a neglect score
- Each of five descriptions retains its selected category: does not fit, fits a little, fits partly, fits closely, fits very closely, or unscored. Six counts add to five descriptions. IDs are labels, not points; there is no sum, mean, highest topic, risk band or diagnosis.
- Positive and difficult descriptions are mixed. A close fit to receiving comfort cannot be subtracted from a close fit to wanting it. Unclear recall stays unscored, distinct from does not fit. An entirely unscored topic establishes no finding about what happened, your health or your need for support.
A mixed example can remain mixed
- Imagine remembering both a dismissive comment and a later attempt to listen. Both descriptions may fit. There is no instruction to cancel one with the other. A category records fit with a sentence, not the number of such exchanges, how justified a feeling was or a percentage of validation received.
- For example, two close fits, one partial fit and two unscored remain exactly that record. They do not mean two events, a majority of childhood, reliable recall or a level of neglect. The page cannot check memories, infer intentions or settle whether an account is complete.
Keep one phrase if it is useful
- An optional wording is “I remember wanting my feeling to be understood before advice.” You can use it privately or leave it unused. The page assigns no confrontation, request for an apology, forgiveness, reconciliation or decision about continued contact.
- Participation is optional for adults describing themselves. This is not a form for assessing a child, partner, employee or caregiver. You need not search for earlier memories, disclose private events, persuade anyone or accept a family label. Choosing not to continue is not an interpretation of your history.

The four overlapping editorial topics have no established norms, clinical thresholds or English–Chinese measurement equivalence. A later difference cannot measure recovery, deterioration or treatment response.
