Hedonism Values: Pleasure, Experience and Enjoyment
Read hedonism through importance, a worked relative score, ordinary enjoyment and nine comparisons. No selfishness, self-control, happiness or health verdict.
Thirty original items use importance ratings from one to five, three for each classical value, with no reverse keys. Unscored responses enter neither numerator nor denominator and are never filled with zero or a midpoint. Each value needs all three ratings for a raw mean. All 30 ratings are required for your overall mean and ten relative values: the unrounded value sum divided by three minus the overall sum divided by 30. Display two decimals for relative values without rounding first. Positive, negative and zero compare with your own overall responses only; zero does not mean unimportant. Identical ratings give ten valid zero relative values rather than no values. Keep all ten full guides without ranking, a sole top identity or primary/secondary types. There are no population norms, percentiles, significant differences, accuracy claims or psychometric validation.
What this value goal describes
Hedonism here concerns the importance of personal pleasure, preferred sensory experiences and enjoyment in activities, rather than a judgment of indulgence or selfishness. The classical framework treats pleasure as a valued goal; three original importance items explore it here. Higher ratings establish neither more leisure, money or enjoyable experiences nor a currently good mood. Pleasure can matter while circumstances leave little room for it, so keep a valued goal separate from its present availability.
A raw and relative scoring example
For a complete worked example, rate these three items five and every other item four. The sum is 123, the overall mean 4.1, the hedonism mean 5.0 and its relative value +0.90. Every other value has mean 4.0 and relative value −0.10, still very important rather than uncared for. If all 30 ratings are five, every relative value is 0.00: no relative differentiation, not no values. Displayed decimals supply no precision, significance or population rank.
An ordinary life situation
Imagine having some freely available time and wanting to keep space for music, food or a small activity you enjoy. Identify what you actually like and check time, cost and shared-space conditions instead of following someone else’s enjoyment list. Choosing rest, saving money or caring for another person on one occasion does not negate pleasure. This questionnaire requires no additional consumption, constant happiness or immediate removal of every unpleasant experience.
Possible wording for discussion
You might say, “I would like a little time for this activity I enjoy, after checking it does not take over what we agreed to share.” State enjoyment alongside shared arrangements and allow different preferences. Nobody needs persuasion that the activity is equally pleasurable for them, and a score decides no group plan. Deferring or declining this occasion remains possible: valuing a goal does not require pursuing it at every moment.
Comparing the nine other values
Stimulation concerns novelty, while familiar pleasure can express hedonism. Self-direction concerns choice even when the chosen activity is not pleasant. Achievement concerns recognised success, power status and control, security stability, conformity interpersonal restraint and tradition heritage. Benevolence concerns close others and universalism wider humanity and nature. Enjoyment can accompany several goals. A moral choice between pleasure and restraint cannot summarise all ten, and the theoretical circle tests neither this behaviour nor relationship compatibility.
Counterexamples and limits
Someone can place high importance on pleasure while acting frugally because of resources or responsibilities. Someone frequently attending entertainment may simply be following arrangements. Responses judge no self-control, addiction, moral worth, happiness, health or work performance. A lower relative value establishes no suppressed feelings and a higher value prescribes no abandonment of other goals. Keep all ten guides rather than an exclusive hedonist label, and treat no changed retest score as proof that life improved or worsened.
An optional observation
For an optional observation, recall an ordinary small activity and separate the pleasure you hoped for, available conditions and any other goals that also mattered. Recollection is enough without extra spending or activity. If you continue, clarify one enjoyable element in something you already want to arrange while respecting time, cost and others’ wishes. This trains no happiness, offers no therapeutic effect and requires no higher or lower priority for hedonism.

Original method, theory sources and scope
FermatMind authored these 30 bilingual direct-importance items, mappings, explanations, examples and presentation for reflection on the ten classical Schwartz value goals. This is no PVQ-21 or PVQ40 portrait-similarity form, nineteen-value PVQ-RR, standard SVS, translation of those banks or official scoring instrument. No competitor bank, report body or algorithm is adopted. Author materials supply conceptual background, motivational relations and within-person priorities, not validation of these items, ten factors, an individual circle, language equivalence or any personal interpretation. Standard-instrument commercial terms were not established in this task and are not inferred from an article licence. Results judge no actual behaviour, ability, health, morality, political or religious membership, hiring, career fit or compatibility and apply no age, cultural or gender pattern to an individual. No value is prescribed as a target to raise or suppress.
