Te · Extraverted thinking
Read this function theme, its four original prompts, reverse key, examples, nearby distinctions and limits.
Three direct ratings and one reverse rating (6 − response), excluding unscored. At least three numeric ratings for a one-decimal mean; no ranking or stack.
Shared criteria and organized action
- Te is the outwardly oriented thinking term. This edition focuses on making goals and criteria explicit, using observable results and arranging steps or resources in relation to a task. The prompts ask about the approach you describe, not how effectively you manage, how much you produce or whether your plans succeed. No leadership or career-fit score is calculated.
- External criteria can be questioned and revised. A requirement may be clear yet unsuitable, unfair or incomplete. Greater endorsement of organizing a task does not establish that you should direct others or that numerical evidence is the only legitimate consideration. Personal values, relationships and the purpose of the task remain relevant.
Four prompts, one descriptive mean
- The first three prompts contribute the selected number from 1 to 5. The fourth is reverse keyed: its contribution is 6 minus the selected number, so 1 becomes 5, 2 becomes 4 and 3 stays 3. An unscored answer contributes nothing and is excluded from the denominator. All 32 prompts need a response before any personal summaries appear.
- For responses 4, 3, 5 and 2, the keyed contributions are 4, 3, 5 and 4: sum 16, count 4, mean 4.0. For 4, unscored, 5 and 2, the sum is 13, count 3 and mean 4.3. With fewer than three numeric ratings, no mean is calculated. The minimum and one-decimal rounding are website conventions, not reliability or certainty thresholds.
Making a shared task inspectable
- In a fictional neighborhood activity, Yun writes down the agreed goal, who has offered which resources and what needs doing before the event. When a delivery changes, Yun suggests revising the order of tasks. The Te theme is the link between an explicit goal and an organized response, not proof that the event will run well.
- Another participant may ask whether the goal serves everyone or whether the schedule is realistic. Those questions can improve the shared account rather than oppose organization. If you recognize yourself in the example, seek agreement before assigning responsibilities; a self-report result never grants authority over other people’s time.
External checks and internal logic
- Te prompts emphasize stated requirements and observable outcomes. Ti prompts emphasize definitions and consistency within an explanation. A plan can meet a deadline while resting on an unclear assumption, or be carefully reasoned while lacking practical checks. Both questions can be worth asking; the questionnaire does not decide which approach is superior.
- Fe concerns attention to the people involved and their expressed shared expectations. Organizing responsibilities and checking how people experience them can happen together. A larger Te mean does not imply coldness or less concern for others. Likewise, a lower mean does not mean you cannot organize a task when that is needed.
A method preference has no success rate
- A mean nearer 5 indicates greater keyed endorsement of making task arrangements and checks explicit. Nearer 1 indicates less endorsement of these examples in the chosen month. Neither measures competence, productivity, conscientiousness on a Big Five instrument or promotion potential. The bank does not observe your work or compare results with an independent standard.
- A middle answer can reflect context: organizing your own activity may feel natural while coordinating a group is unwelcome. The same mean can conceal that difference. Review the specific responses rather than treating a small numerical gap from another topic as a meaningful psychological preference or a reason to take on a management role.
Agree on one useful check
- For a small voluntary task, state the intended result in plain words and ask what one observable check would show it was done. Confirm the plan with anyone whose time is involved. This can make coordination easier to discuss, but it is not a validated intervention or evidence that Te has increased.
- If the check distorts the purpose of the activity or creates unnecessary burden, change or drop it. Not every hobby, relationship or ordinary interaction needs a target. You can keep the result as a vocabulary aid and stop here, without reorganizing your life or measuring yourself against someone else’s means.
What this edition can and cannot conclude
- These original items and the English and Chinese versions have not established psychometric validity, reliability, population norms or measurement equivalence. The framework source explains terminology; it did not supply, approve or validate this bank. Means summarize keyed endorsement of different sets of statements. They are not calibrated against one another and do not establish a dominant, auxiliary or inferior function.
- No overall score, ordered function stack, four-letter type, diagnosis or decision about work or relationships is produced. Exact display ties remain ties; small gaps have no validated interpretation. All eight complete guides are available regardless of your ratings. Public guides contain no personal answers, and optional sharing includes only the test title and entry link.
