Observe voluntary play without a demand to be lively or take risks.
Read FC voluntary play, raw frequency scores, higher or lower readings, missing information and examples without inferring creativity or childhood.
For FC, recall how often each of four actions occurred in the past four weeks when a relevant occasion arose, from 1 Never to 5 Almost always. All items are direct; none reverses. Four valid ratings produce a raw total of 4–20 and a descriptive mean from the unrounded sum divided by four, shown to two decimals. For example, 4, 3, 2, 5 total 14 with a mean of 3.50. Any NA leaves this group insufficient while other complete groups remain readable. The five groups are not added or normalised into energy percentages, a dominant type or an ideal shape. Ordered-category sums and decimals establish no measurement precision.
FC: play in moments of voluntary choice
This group uses the functional label Free Child, or FC, for four actions: adding play in a gap without disrupting agreements, trying an interesting idea on a small scale, saying what you feel like trying and changing a familiar leisure activity. Child is no actual age, immaturity or replay of childhood. These actions establish neither creativity, an authentic self nor happiness. The wording deliberately concerns voluntary situations that do not disrupt others; frequency justifies no breach of shared agreements. Four items do not cover all emotional expression, only selected play and spontaneous trials. Being quiet or disliking sudden changes remains compatible with an honest account of your recent four weeks.
How the four frequency ratings are scored
For FC, recall how often each of four actions occurred in the past four weeks when a relevant occasion arose, from 1 Never to 5 Almost always. All items are direct; none reverses. Four valid ratings produce a raw total of 4–20 and a descriptive mean from the unrounded sum divided by four, shown to two decimals. For example, 4, 3, 2, 5 total 14 with a mean of 3.50. Any NA leaves this group insufficient while other complete groups remain readable. The five groups are not added or normalised into energy percentages, a dominant type or an ideal shape. Higher: voluntary small trials occur more often
A higher result means more frequent small trials or expressions of interest, perhaps during a period with more free moments or familiar leisure settings. It proves neither an energising presence, creative ability, greater authenticity nor easier flow; the questionnaire includes no work samples, observer feedback or performance tasks. Consider whether a particular trial was within your choice and compatible with agreements involving others. Higher frequency does not establish impulsivity, poor persistence or difficulty cooperating, nor require less play to produce a supposedly mature chart. Any consequences and follow-through need actual circumstances rather than a story inferred from the FC number.
Lower: quiet and planned activity may suit you
A lower result may reflect little free time, fixed leisure arrangements, physical or resource constraints, or a preference for planned enjoyment. It establishes neither missing vitality, suppressed emotion, a constrained childhood nor a need to rediscover a true self. You may have many interests without expressing them through these four actions, and the score cannot supply that missing information. Use NA when no voluntary opportunity arose, or simply acknowledge low frequency when that fits. Regularity, quiet and choosing not to try something remain available choices. There is no requirement to disrupt a plan or appear lively to improve FC or demonstrate that you can enjoy life.
Interest expression and spontaneous changes can differ
You might often say what you want to try while rarely changing a familiar activity, or quietly test small ideas without voicing your interests. A total cannot distinguish those patterns or establish which is freer or more authentic. A mean of three certifies no half-play, half-work balance, and a maximum is no optimal vitality. Any NA leaves this group insufficient without estimates from AC, A or another group. All five frequencies may be higher or lower together. This edition measures no conserved energy and does not infer coldness, burnout or relationship difficulty from a combination of lower FC and higher A.
Example and counterexample: changing a familiar activity
Imagine arranging ordinary building blocks in your own spare time and spontaneously trying another layout simply to see the effect. That illustrates a small trial, not a creativity test or a requirement to produce an original work. A counterexample is someone who enjoys completing an established design without changing it; that establishes neither limited imagination nor unhappiness. In a shared activity, first check whether a change affects another person’s plan. Your interest creates no obligation for them to join. Not continuing one experiment also establishes no lack of persistence; these four items do not observe what happened afterwards. Keep the reading within the choices actually made.
Optional experiment: one small change you want
If useful, choose one small change in a moment that is truly yours and requires no one else to participate, or choose to keep the familiar arrangement. Consider time, materials and existing commitments without invoking a Free Child that must be released to force risk or emotional disclosure. One trial guarantees neither happiness, creativity nor a higher score, and lack of interest is a valid reason not to continue. Simply consider whether the choice suited you at that moment. It is no childhood-healing exercise or proof that a suppressed part was liberated. Keep it entirely private without uploading a product, feelings or personal story.
Separate FC from inner-child metaphors and extraversion
FC comes from functional transactional-analysis terminology, but these four items are original observations of recent actions rather than a Dusay or TEG3 clinical bank. Our inner-child fun edition uses symbolic choices about play and childlike curiosity, not interchangeable frequency scores. Extraversion, emotional expression, maturity and creative ability are not measured here. Higher AC does not establish that you fear being yourself, and higher A does not turn lower FC into a defect. Theoretical background does not validate this Chinese edition or twenty-item method, which has no norms or ideal chart. Read specified actions alongside opportunities and keep situations that do not fit an appealing headline story.
Full free text and optional review
All five full guides appear together for free without another assessment, an email address or payment. When reviewing, compare settings, opportunities and particular items rather than treating a score difference as treatment benefit or personality change. Answers are processed on this device without real conversations, childhood stories or third-party details. An explicitly enabled tab draft lasts at most twenty-four hours and clears on completion, retake or exit-and-clear; answering requires no saved draft. Sharing contains only the test name, public guide names and link, without answers, five scores or chart data. Later recommendations are optional different frameworks, not completion of an insufficient score. You may simply finish here.
