Preliminary IPIP 240 items · Six full domain guides free
Take the free 240-item preliminary IPIP HEXACO test. Read six domain means, reverse scoring, missing information and full bilingual guides. No fixed types.
240 questions · about 35 minutes · no signup
Answer how accurately each English statement or Chinese trial translation describes you as you generally are now, not how you wish to appear. Five accuracy options run from one to five; a separate NA is available for insufficient information, inapplicability or preferring not to answer. The full bank contains potentially uncomfortable statements about money, worry and conflict; no incidents or identifying details are entered. All 240 items need a selection. Each domain needs all forty valid ratings; any NA withholds that domain, without estimating from other answers. Domains are interleaved. Optional tab saving can help you pause; no personal answers are included in a public guide link.

Explore six domains: Honesty–Humility, Emotionality, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness and Openness to Experience. This edition retains all 240 English items and keys from the preliminary public-domain IPIP bank, forty per domain, with our Chinese trial translation. It is not the current official HEXACO-PI-R sixty or hundred item inventory, nor Big Five with one score added. After all selections, fully rated domains show a raw sum and mean; a domain with any NA remains insufficient. All six eight-section guides appear together, covering higher, lower, middle and mixed responses, examples, counterexamples and next steps. No highest trait becomes a type, percentile, diagnosis or career recommendation. The full attempt and reports are free without signup or another test.
The complete preliminary public-domain IPIP key has 240 unique English statements, six domains of forty, and four ten-item facets per domain. Its source explicitly links the preliminary scales to Lee and Ashton (2004). We retain every English statement and published positive or negative key, with our Chinese trial translation. The current official HEXACO-PI-R is a different inventory with different permission terms. Permission to reuse IPIP does not establish validity of our translation or individual interpretations.
Each positive key scores one to five; each negative key scores six minus the rating. Forty valid items give a raw domain sum from 40–200. Divide the unrounded sum by forty and display two decimals: 122 gives 3.05. Equal item counts give equal weight to the four facets. Any NA withholds the domain’s sum and mean; other fully rated domains can still appear. No total, cutoffs, population comparison, relative trait ranking or facet scores are generated.
A middle mean can arise from uniformly moderate or sharply mixed answers. Higher is not always better, and an accuracy self-report does not verify honesty, ability, health or suitability for a job. The ordered response categories and decimal display establish no interval precision. Six full guides remain available when information is insufficient. Optional drafts live in this tab for up to 24 hours and clear on completion or retake; sharing copies only a public title and link.
Read what each of the 6 parts explores. Your complete result presents them together; they are not mutually exclusive personality types. These public guides contain no one’s answers or personal means.
Explore sincerity, fairness, greed avoidance and modesty as self-descriptions, with higher, lower and mixed readings.
Read fearfulness, anxiety, dependence and sentimentality without turning sensitivity or reassurance into a diagnosis.
Explore expressiveness, social boldness, sociability and liveliness without assigning a better social personality.
Read forgiveness, gentleness, flexibility and patience while preserving boundaries and justified disagreement.
Explore organisation, diligence, perfectionism and prudence as separate contributors to one self-reported domain.
Read aesthetic appreciation, inquisitiveness, creativity and unconventionality without claiming an objective creativity score.
No. It retains the full preliminary public-domain IPIP 240-item English key linked to Lee and Ashton (2004), with our Chinese trial translation. The current official HEXACO-PI-R 60/100 forms are separate and are not reproduced here.
No. Six separate continuous domain readings appear together. There is no winning factor, fixed type, cross-domain ranking, population norm or percentile.
Positive items keep the one-to-five rating; negative items use six minus it. Each domain needs forty valid ratings for a raw sum and mean. Any NA withholds that domain, never imputing zero or three. Other fully rated domains remain available.
No. Chinese is our trial translation from the public English bank. Its equivalence, interleaved presentation and NA rule have not been independently validated here. Published research on other HEXACO forms is not evidence for this edition.
No. Accuracy self-reports and educational guides cannot independently verify behaviour, provide a clinical diagnosis or establish occupational suitability. Read concrete context and counterexamples.
All 240 items and six full guides are free without signup. Saving is optional and limited to this tab. Completion or retake clears the draft. Share text contains a public title and link without personal ratings or means.
