Autonomy Frustration: Pressure and Willing Endorsement
Read reported pressure separately from ordinary limits and low satisfaction, with mixed examples, wording and observations; no verdict of others’ intentions.
After all 24 selections, calculate six parts separately. Each has four items rated 1 Never to 5 Almost always. There are no reverse items: frustration never reverses into satisfaction. Exclude NA for absent context, insufficient information or declining to answer, without filling zero, a midpoint or another part’s score. At least three ratings permit a one-decimal mean from 1 to 5, using scored sum divided by rated items; otherwise retain insufficient information. Do not add, subtract or rank the six means into a personality or most important need. There is no overall motivation score, health index, norm, percentile or scientific cutoff. Equal means stay equal; decimals establish no significance or change, and middle means can reflect different answers. The minimum is a website completeness convention rather than a validated psychometric standard.
What this experience concerns
Autonomy frustration here concerns feeling that your view was shut down, agreement was compelled or a choice was overridden through pressure. Four original items record experience in your chosen area over four weeks rather than investigate an event. Rules, disagreement and an unmet request do not automatically count as frustration. Feeling pressured and establishing someone else’s deliberate controlling intention are different questions requiring different information.
Higher, lower, mixed and insufficient readings
A higher mean describes more reported pressure in these selected situations; a lower mean describes less without certifying abundant freedom. Low satisfaction may arise from unclear participation reasons without active pressure. A middle mean preserves mixed events rather than an ideal degree of control. At least three ratings permit a personal mean. Insufficient information becomes neither low frustration nor satisfaction, and no motivation type follows from it.
A concrete ordinary situation
Imagine a shared activity with an agreed endpoint. You suggest another workable arrangement. Someone might explain a real constraint, or the exchange might leave you feeling that approval depends on displaying agreement. Separate remembered words, actual limits and your experience. The questionnaire cannot adjudicate the event and requires no argument, disregard of duties or immediate relationship or work decision. A complete account contains much more than a mean.
A possible way to express it
If appropriate and welcome to you, ask, “I understand that we have shared requirements. Which parts are fixed, and where can different views be considered?” This clarifies the scope without promising acceptance or requiring proof of control. You can leave the sentence unsent and use it only to organise information. Whether an exchange is possible and desired depends on actual conditions, rather than a questionnaire result.
Comparisons with other experiences
Satisfaction and frustration have separate items; a low mean for one must not be filled in as a high mean for the other. Competence frustration concerns felt inadequacy around dismissed attempts, and relatedness frustration concerns rejection or exclusion. Competence satisfaction concerns a manageable step and relatedness satisfaction care and acceptance; neither is equivalent to freedom from pressure. One event may involve several experiences or just one. The reflection identifies no single true cause and does not make the highest frustration mean a universal route to restoring motivation.
Counterexamples and conclusions not established
A real time constraint in an ordinary task does not necessarily establish pressure, while several apparent options do not guarantee willing endorsement. Results determine no illegality, abuse, workplace relationship, authority or another person’s character and diagnose no anxiety, exhaustion or health problem. Reporting little pressure does not certify an arrangement as desirable, and reporting more cannot establish everything about an environment without additional facts.
An optional observation
For an optional observation, recall one small event without recreating it. Separate the requirement you remember, pressure you experienced and facts still missing. No inquiry or action is required, and a feeling need not become an accusation. If there is no event you want to revisit, stop here. Retaining uncertainty is useful in itself; the observation assigns no task of lowering a score or changing anybody.
