Autonomy Satisfaction: Endorsing Your Participation
Explore willingly endorsed participation, including cooperation, with higher, lower and mixed readings. Autonomy is no independence or fixed motivation type.
After all 24 selections, calculate six parts separately. Each has four items rated 1 Never to 5 Almost always. There are no reverse items: frustration never reverses into satisfaction. Exclude NA for absent context, insufficient information or declining to answer, without filling zero, a midpoint or another part’s score. At least three ratings permit a one-decimal mean from 1 to 5, using scored sum divided by rated items; otherwise retain insufficient information. Do not add, subtract or rank the six means into a personality or most important need. There is no overall motivation score, health index, norm, percentile or scientific cutoff. Equal means stay equal; decimals establish no significance or change, and middle means can reflect different answers. The minimum is a website completeness convention rather than a validated psychometric standard.
What this experience concerns
Autonomy satisfaction here concerns feeling able to endorse your participation or its reasons. Someone else may have proposed the approach, and shared rules may still apply. The issue is not who spoke first but whether you willingly stand behind what you are doing. Four original items consider that experience in your chosen area over four weeks, rather than counting independent decisions or treating agreement and disagreement as automatic evidence of autonomy.
Higher, lower, mixed and insufficient readings
A higher mean indicates more frequent reported endorsement in these four selected situations; a lower mean indicates less, without establishing that someone controlled you. A middle mean may combine willingly chosen tasks with uncertain ones, or Sometimes responses throughout. At least three ratings are required for a personal mean. Missing context remains insufficient information. There is no ideal target or highest-score assignment of an autonomy-driven personality.
A concrete ordinary situation
Imagine preparing materials for a shared interest activity. The group agrees on one format. You originally preferred another, but understand why consistency helps everyone read it and willingly adopt the arrangement. That cooperative decision can include autonomy satisfaction. If you simply had no time to consider your reasons, record uncertainty. Using another person’s format does not by itself demonstrate lost autonomy or create a reason to withdraw from cooperation.
A possible way to express it
You might say, “I did not propose this format, but I agree that consistency helps us communicate, so I am willing to use it; there is one detail I would still like to discuss.” Endorsement and disagreement can coexist. Clarify agreed requirements and remaining choices without needing to originate every detail. Whether a suggestion is accepted depends on the actual response, which a mean cannot replace or predict.
Comparisons with other experiences
Autonomy frustration separately concerns pressure and compelled endorsement; it is not six minus the satisfaction mean. Competence satisfaction concerns feeling effective at a step, while relatedness satisfaction concerns care and acceptance. You may willingly participate while lacking confidence in a task, or feel close to people while questioning an arrangement. Competence frustration concerns felt dismissal of attempts; relatedness frustration concerns exclusion. Neither is supplied by this mean. Keep all six means separate, without ranking, subtraction or an inference about intrinsic interest, rewards or reasons for action.
Counterexamples and conclusions not established
Many available options do not guarantee endorsement if none feels meaningful to you. Few options can still allow willing acceptance of a shared requirement. Actual duties, resources and power differences require their own facts. The mean assesses no independence, defiance, leadership, IQ, maturity, health or career fit and cannot establish that your experience will be identical in another area or next month.
An optional observation
For an optional observation, recall one small arrangement in your selected area. Separate the actual requirement, a reason you endorse and something still unclear. Recollection is enough; no change is required. If discussion is welcome, ask about one detail where choice remains. The purpose is clearer reasons and requirements, rather than a higher mean, rejection of shared rules or proof that you must work alone.

This original FermatMind 24-item contextual frequency reflection uses the three SDT needs as conceptual background while keeping satisfaction and frustration separate.
