Relatedness Frustration: Experienced Exclusion
Separate little interaction from experienced exclusion, with mixed readings, examples and observations; means determine no intentions or relationship decision.
After all 24 selections, calculate six parts separately. Each has four items rated 1 Never to 5 Almost always. There are no reverse items: frustration never reverses into satisfaction. Exclude NA for absent context, insufficient information or declining to answer, without filling zero, a midpoint or another part’s score. At least three ratings permit a one-decimal mean from 1 to 5, using scored sum divided by rated items; otherwise retain insufficient information. Do not add, subtract or rank the six means into a personality or most important need. There is no overall motivation score, health index, norm, percentile or scientific cutoff. Equal means stay equal; decimals establish no significance or change, and middle means can reflect different answers. The minimum is a website completeness convention rather than a validated psychometric standard.
What this experience concerns
Relatedness frustration concerns feeling deliberately excluded, treated as unwanted or rejected through coldness in your selected area. Four original items retain the standpoint of your experience rather than turn it into verified evidence of another person’s intention. Little interaction, solitude, one delayed reply or an unsuitable activity differ from experienced rejection. Understanding the actual events requires information beyond a questionnaire response.
Higher, lower, mixed and insufficient readings
A higher mean describes more reported exclusion or rejection in these selected situations; a lower mean describes less without certifying closeness. Low satisfaction may simply reflect little interaction rather than high frustration. A middle mean can retain welcoming and uncertain exchanges together, without a norm or clinical cutoff. At least three ratings permit a mean. Insufficient information establishes neither a good relationship nor a relationship problem.
A concrete ordinary situation
Imagine not receiving part of the communication for a supposedly shared activity and feeling left outside. Separate what was missing, the agreed notification method, your experience and causes still unconfirmed. An omission or other facts may be involved, but the questionnaire cannot choose an explanation. One ordinary event need not become a verdict on the whole group or your identity, and the mean supplies no missing account.
A possible way to express it
If appropriate and welcome to you, ask, “Which channel carried that information? I did not receive it and would like to confirm the shared arrangement.” Check the process without minimising your experience or immediately identifying deliberate exclusion. You can instead leave the question unsent and organise known and unknown facts. Whether to ask, participate or end contact depends on actual circumstances and willingness, rather than a mean’s verdict.
Comparisons with other experiences
Relatedness satisfaction separately concerns care, acceptance and connection; frustration items do not reverse into satisfaction. Autonomy frustration concerns pressured choice and competence frustration felt inadequacy around dismissed attempts. Autonomy satisfaction concerns willing participation and competence satisfaction a manageable step; exclusion does not automatically fill either in as low. One event may involve several experiences without establishing a common cause. Keep six separate means, without subtraction, a total or an inference that the highest frustration part identifies your greatest need or explains every change in motivation.
Counterexamples and conclusions not established
A delayed response can have many explanations, and a feeling alone cannot establish malice. Reporting little exclusion does not guarantee sufficient interaction or a desirable relationship. Results determine no bullying, discrimination, personality, legal responsibility or popularity and diagnose no loneliness, depression, exhaustion or other health condition. The questionnaire did not observe the event and requires no unwanted contact to verify a score.
An optional observation
For an optional observation, recall only an ordinary exchange you want to consider. Separate checkable information, your experience and unconfirmed causes. No saved record or contact is required, and you can skip it. An unclear communication channel can remain a small open question; other uncertainty can remain unresolved too. The observation requires no forgiveness, confrontation or relationship repair and gives you no duty to increase a satisfaction score.
